WHO WE ARE:

Slate Belt Rising (SBR) is a neighborhood revitalization initiative designed to integrate and capitalize on the substantial assets of the individual Slate Belt communities. By leveraging the unique history, architecture, and culture of each municipality into a regional approach, SBR will use a Neighborhood Partnership Plan to foster comprehensive community and economic development. While SBR specifically targets the boroughs of Bangor, Wind Gap, Pen Argyl, and Portland, some initiatives promote development and the coordination of services for the entire region.

"Thanks to Slate Belt Rising, I am currently studying Early Childhood and Special Education at my dream University! This scholarship has allowed me to attend the school of my dreams without causing much of a financial burden to do so. This scholarship means a lot to me because I will now be able to go on to become a Special Education teacher with the best education I can receive. This scholarship has also contributed to my personal and academic growth because in high school, I never truly understood the importance of scholarships until I arrived at college and realized how much gaining education costs in this generation. Finally, I believe that community support is truly important when entering college because, in high school, I never understood the importance of applying for scholarships. After all, I never understood how big of a difference even a small amount of money could help me with such a big financial burden. Community support allows students with diverse backgrounds and unique financial situations to gain the education that is right for them. I appreciate this opportunity, and thank you again for reaching out!"
