SLATE BELT RISING SUBCOMMITTEES

Affordable/Quality Housing Committee
As a member of this subcommittee, you will be expected to attend meetings, provide feedback on current and prospective projects, and assist with program planning. Subcommittee members are encouraged to leverage their backgrounds and connections when applicable. You will have a voice in housing and facade improvement projects selected for funding by Slate Belt Rising. The focus of this subcommittee is to improve the housing stock of the Slate Belt region through our residential facade program and improve commercial districts through our commercial facade and mural program.
Regional Cooperation, Community Engagement,
and Vibrant Economic Climate Committee
As a member of this subcommittee, you will have a voice in related projects selected for funding by Slate Belt Rising. This subcommittee’s focus is to address inter-municipal and communal cohesion through project activities such as investing in the creation of regional plans; hosting community events; designing and executing a “Slate Belt Proud” initiative to increase civic participation; and enhancing the regional trail network.
Additionally, members will have a voice in economic development projects selected for funding by Slate Belt Rising. The focus of this subcommittee is to execute projects which will ultimately contribute to the economic revitalization of Bangor, Pen Argyl, Portland, Wind Gap, and the Slate Belt as a whole. We encourage small business owners and those familiar with the business climate in this area to join.
Committee members also oversee the annual presentation of scholarships to several individuals attending Pen Argyl and Bangor School Districts. These annual scholarship presentations aid in the future development of those chosen as they attend college, vocational, or other educational opportunities after high school graduation.
Program Sustainability Committee
As a member of this subcommittee, you will work collaboratively to ensure that Slate Belt Rising is prepared for the long-haul. You will be responsible for helping locate, vet, and obtain potential local funding sources to sustain the work being done by Slate Belt Rising. Subcommittee members are encouraged to leverage their backgrounds and connections when applicable. You will also work with the Director to ensure they have the training necessary to lead the program successfully.
